03.09.01    News from the National US Championship...

National 2001 - First day, Sunday, 2nd Sept.

This first day was reserved for the 4' free style program. For the first time in the USA, the pilots had the option to fly with music and David MARTIN took this opportunity to prepare a new sequence, devoted to demonstrate the emotional potential of a flight accuratly synchronised with the music.

Unfortunately, the organizers failed to transmit the music to the pilots, which created a little bit of confusion when David, flying number one, started his sequence.

Despite these handicaps (flying 1 and not receiving the music) David scored very well and ranked second, followed by Debby Rhin who flew also very well.

The winner is Mike Mangold, US team member.

The CAP team is very proud to congratulate Debby and David for their excellent performance.

10.08.01    Investigations on the wreckage of the G202 kit #05

The wreckage was examined Wednesday August 08 in Toulouse by BEA, CEAT and CAP Aviation experts. This active co-operation makes it possible for CEAT to launch their laboratory work quickly. A progress meeting will be held at the beginning of September, in Toulouse, with BEA, CEAT and CAP Aviation.

Following this first meeting, it appears, for CAP Aviation, that the assumptions of bird impact or flutter can be isolated. The observations carried out on the wreck converge rather towards structural failure. The origins of this failure remain still unknown. CAP Aviation is actively working with the authorities in order to explain the causes of the accident.

CAP Aviation is working hard in order to quickly lift the grounding of G202 kits registered in France, currently in force. The progress of the investigation will be reported in a forthcoming official statement.

03.08.01    News about the accident with the G202 kit #05

The aircraft wreck is sent to CEAT (Aeronautical Tests Center of Toulouse, France) on Tuesday, August 7th. Experts from CEAT, BEA (French Accidents Investigations Organisation) and CAP Aviation will examine the wreckages in order to find the rupture modes of the different parts.

This press release will be updated as soon as we get more information.

21.07.01    Accident with the G202 kit #05

An accident cost the life of Richard LOTHOZ Saturday July 21, while he was training on board the G202 kit n°05 above the aerodrome of Ancenis (France).

Richard was an experienced acrobat: an international pilot in the "advanced category " for several years. A place on the podium had been assured for him this year. Richard was our friend.

At the time of a flight just above the ground, the empennage and the fuselage tail section were torn off, causing the accident.
No manufacturing defect has been highlighted during the first visual examinations.
The cause of the accident remains unknown today.
It should be noted that the terrain was the subject of bird dangers that day. Several dead birds were found on the ground, and a volatile collision was reported with another aircraft.

The G202, registered F-PQUX, is the 5th kit of 7 sold by CAP Aviation. Several dozens of G202s fly in the United States. The G202 is a kit plane uncertified, with an American definition.

CAP Aviation already placed all its means at the disposal of the authorities to identify the causes of this accident.

All the team of CAP Aviation share the profound sadness of the family and the close relations of Richard LOTHOZ.

21.06.01    CAP 222 - End of the test flights CEV

The authorities (flight test centre) carried out the trial flight run of the CAP222 during May 2001.

This point constituted a capital stage in the process of certification of the new aircraft. The good results obtained during these tests enabled us to carry out the request for a special airworthiness certificate for the CAP222 N° 001, which we hope will be issued by the authorities sometime in next July.

Obtaining the CNDs is a decisive step in the direction of launching production, which will start in September 2001.

21.06.01    CAP 222 - First flight of CAP 10C n° 300

The first CAP10C produced at Darois accomplished its first flight in the expert hands of Alain RUELLOUX on May 15 2001.

The last CAP10B produced with a Bernay portrait carried job number 282. Series 300 will make it possible to more easily identify the outgoing CAP10 of the Dijon factory.

This aircraft began manufacturers flight tests, which must be carried out before giving the plane to the CEV, at the beginning of July. The modification approval for the CAP10C is expected by the end of July and production will start at the beginning of September.

Ten aircraft have been sold. The price for a stunt-flying equipped plane (with VHF and transponder) is 950,000Frs + tax.
